Have you ever heard of the phrase “working like a dog?” This is true, in such a way that dogs are very industrious workers. Canines are capable of working different kinds of jobs similar to what we do. Among the most common tasks of working dogs are making lonely individuals happy and looking after kids and families. There are also some special breeds of canines that are tasked to assist policemen. The perfect examples for these breeds are the Doberman and German shepherd. On the other hand, some dogs work as guides for the blind people. Since working dogs don’t get paid like us, we treat them with utmost care and love.<br />Other than canines that assist the police and blind individuals, farm dogs are also working dogs. They are the original working dogs. They are endowed with the innate instinct of herding sheep and watching over livestock. The breeds that are appropriate for this kind of job are the Border collie, Welsh Collie, Queensland Heeler, and Australian Kelpie. If you want to know how to train your dog to round up your cattle or sheep, you can watch working dog videos. These videos contain important tips and steps on training canines.<br />While there are farm dogs, there are also guard dogs. They are working dogs that are trained and hired to stop or attack intruders. These canines are mostly employed in homes, buildings, and fenced properties. The breeds that are suitable for this task are the American Bulldog, German shepherd, Rottweiler, and Doberman. Even if your dog knows how to bark, it does not mean that it is a guard dog. It is simply considered a watch dog, barking mainly to warn its owners.<br />Police dogs are working dogs that are specifically trained to assist the police in different fields or areas. There are canines that are trained to enforce public order, chasing or detaining suspects. Sniffer dogs look out for illicit substances like explosives or drugs. The Customs employ these trained canines to smell out illegal importation of plants or wildlife. Sniffer dogs are mostly beagles. Cadaver canines are working dogs that are taught to detect the smell of bodies that are decomposing. There are also tracking dogs that search for missing individuals or find suspects. Bloodhounds are perfect tracking canines.<br />If you want to train your dog within a certain field, you can view working dog videos. These videos will show you how to teach your canine to carry out the tasks that it is supposed to do. One website that provides working dog videos is Working Dog Videos. Other than videos, you can also watch pictures of canines on the website. You can join groups, and become a member of organizations that specialize in the training of working dogs.<br />You can also upload working dog videos over at the website. Or else, you can share videos of working dogs. You can make your videos available to the public, allowing you to share videos with every user that logs on to the site. You can also do this privately, sharing working dog videos only with the members of the website. If you own a training kennel, you can promote this by uploading videos of your working dogs.<br />By: Vikram kumar<br />Article Directory: <a href="http://www.articledashboard.com/">http://www.articledashboard.com</a><br />If you want to see some of the best working dogs , you can log on to the Internet to find and watch working dog videos.

By: Kevin StithbyKevin Stith Dog collars are one of the few indulgences for a dog lover. Though dog collars are an absolute necessity, they can also be a fashionable extravagance. Dog collars make the dog stand out in the crowd. A unique dog collar can really draw attention to the dog and the owner.Today, there are many different kinds of dog collars available. They range from simple and practical leather collars to fancy, personalized collars for that unique look. There are many companies that are designing unique collars for all kinds of dogs. These include nylon collars, cotton collars, metallic collars, leather collars, handmade collars, woven collars, foam collars, gold, silver or platinum collars, beaded collars, stone-studded collars and so on. Based on the purpose, dog collars can be categorized as adjustable collars, washable collars, training collars, no-bark collars, reflective collars, electric collars, waterproof collars, talking collars and others. Some common designs include plaid, polka dots, python prints, crocodile prints, animal prints, tuxedo style, denim, bandana, mink, bone, bow collar, slide collars, metallic collection, beaded, velvet, and those with unique designs such as MLB, NLF, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Eagles and so on.Dog collars have to be very comfortable. The right size of the dog’s neck has to be carefully measured using a tape. Placing two fingers between the neck and the tape would show the most comfortable length. The tape should also be kept loosely around the neck. The collar is likely to rest a few inches below the head, but it is better to add a couple of inches to the measurement. If the length is between two sizes, choose the bigger collar.Go for a bigger collar if the dog is still growing. The different collar sizes available are: toy (8-10""), small (10-14""), small plus (14-16""), medium (16-18""), large (20-22"") and extra large (22-24""). The width of the collar is generally ½"" or 1"". 10-14"" collars are for beagles, Jack Russells, and shelties, which have smaller necks. Labs, Australian shepherds, Dalmatians, pointers and spaniels have neck sizes ranging from 14 to 20 inches, while rottweilers, Great Danes, and chow chows have neck lengths between 18 and 28 inches.Dog collars also differ on the basis of the buckle used. Some collars have snap-together buckles, which are very convenient, but they are not ideal for big and powerful dogs, as they are not very strong. Some buckles also have special safety features to prevent collar-related accidents. These days, there are also GPS-enabled dog collars available to make dog tracking easier.Prices of dog collars start from $5 or $6 and can go up to $100 depending on the kind of collar and the material used. They are also available in wholesale quantities, in sets of 12 or 24 collars or more.Dog Collars provides detailed information on Dog Collars, Personalized Dog Collars, Small Dog Collars, Fancy Dog Collars and more. By : Gerry RonsonMany first time dog owners have many questions about whether their dog will be good around other pets, around cats, and of course around children. You will find that most dog breeds have specific information on whether they can actually be around other pets. You may have seen stories of dogs adopting little baby chicks or becoming friendly with deer, but are the stories really true? For the most part you have to be very careful with dogs around other pets. There are certain breeds of dogs that tend to have affection for cats; however you will find that some dog breeds are not ideal. Below you will find a list of some of the dogs that will do well with cats and some reasons as to why. You should also realize that making this important decision before owning a new dog or before introducing a cat into your home with a dog is an important aspect of caring for your dog.First dogs take a lot of care. You will find that most dog breeds need to be walked for at least fifteen minutes a day if not an hour. They also need a lot of affection and attention throughout the day with play time, training time, and of course their bathroom breaks. So before you introduce a cat into your home with a dog you have to make sure you are willing and able to take care of both pets. Cats are easier to handle as they are mostly able to have a food bowl on the floor constantly and can be trained to use the litter box. They generally need affection as well, but not always the amount a dog requires. Once you have made the decision that you can handle two types of pets you need to look at the breed of dog you have.Dog breeds that you need to stay away from with small pets include Great Danes, Affenpinschers, Sheepdogs, hounds, and hunting dogs. You will find that most large dog breeds do not do well around small animals. For larger dog breeds like the hounds or Great Danes they were taught to hunt. Their instincts are to hunt the cat rather than allow it peace. Even if they understand the cat is part of the family they can also be too rough on the cat. For instance German Shepherds love to play. They will adopt a new family member well, especially cats, but they can be extremely rough on the smaller animal, not understanding the gentleness needed even during play. This is the major concern with all dogs and cats. Dogs tend to be rougher during play and most breeds have been breed for working as hunters or hounds, which mean they prey on smaller animals for their masters to catch in the hunt.Dog breeds that can do well with cats include German Shepherds, Boxers, Labradors, and the smaller dog breeds such as small Terriers, Beagles, Basset Hounds, and Collies. What you must realize with any dog is that training is extremely important in these cases. You will find that German Shepherds all though they can be harmful to cats can be trained to behave around smaller pets. During training you need to socialize the dog with other dogs as well as cats or other animals they may be around. The idea is that at an early age if the dog understands the behaviour required of them around other more delicate pets they will be able to live in harmony rather than harming them. So yes dogs and cats can live together as long as the proper training and precautions are taken. This Pets article is provided by Articleteller - The Free Article Directory http://www.articleteller.comGerry Ronson has been working with dogs for over twenty years and now works as a writer for the websites dog accessories and dog training clubs.

By: Richard CussonsBasset Hound training is extremely important to your Basset Hound. Training period is the time for him to learn lots of things, from potty training to kennel training and can even progress as far as obedience training and training for shows and hunting. Teaching your dog about noise is an important training for dogs but is often taken for granted by some dog owners.I can very well remember my own pet every time he hears a loud noise. He would hurriedly run like crazy looking for a safe place to hide. Seeing him in that situation bothers me somehow because I know aside from the disturbance it can cause to me and other family members, his fear of loud noise my lead to much serious problems such as phobias. There is no known reason why some pets are afraid of noises. But, dog owners must be aware that this problem should be addressed immediately because as what I have mentioned, fear may lead to phobia, an irrational, intense, persistent fear of certain situations, objects, activities or persons.Basset Hounds, same with Collies, German Shepherds and Beagles are at greater risk compared to other breeds. So it is important that getting used to noise should be included in your Basset Hound training. Once you notice that your dog is trying to fearfully escape upon hearing a loud noise, don't wait any further. Make a move to help him overcome that fear. Other signs to watch out include panting, pacing, trembling or shaking and barking. What should I do to help my dog alleviate his fear? That is certainly one of the many questions a dog owner would ask. It is best when you start training your dog when he is still a puppy. Start training by making loud noises such as clapping your hands or playing loud music next to him. (The noise should be loud enough to startle your dog.) Then follow it up with lots of love and attention to make him realize that noise is not something to be scared of. You may also want to take him outside to expose him to various sounds. When your dog is afraid of thunderstorms, you can calm him by leaving the radio on for him, even best to stroke him and soothe him. You can also record noise through a tape recording and play it at a very low level at first. Then gradually increase the volume until the volume is very loud.Whatever causes the noise, it is important that you as dog owner should project a calm attitude. Do not add your pet's fear by being afraid or nervous.Richard Cussons trains different breeds of dogs. By Sandy Oberreuter "Dogs are obsessed with being happy" --James Thurber People love small dogs - they are cute and adorable. They make wonderful and devoted companions and make good watchdogs. They are so popular because they are great lap dogs and loveable. They make great pets for people who live in RV's, small homes and apartments. There are many different breeds and they all have different temperaments and character tics. If you are thinking about getting a small dog breed, choose one that fits your lifestyle, living space, time you have to devote to him, and if have children their ages. The number of people having small dogs has risen according to the AKC. Their 2008 list shows the Yorkshire Terrier as number 2, outranking the German Shepherd. The Yorkie is classified as a toy breed and they love attention. These little dogs are brave, clever and want to please which is why they rank as number 2. Other popular small dogs are Daschund, Poodles, Shih Tzu, Chihuahuas, Beagles, Pugs, Pomeranians, Bichon Frise, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Maltese. Seniors love small dog breeds because they make great companions for them. Some of the most popular are: Miniature Schmauzer who enjoy being around people and are very affectionate. Shih Tzu is eager to please and like companionship of people. Chihuahuas are well suited to seniors because they bond with them and are protective of them. Small dogs that are good with children are: Boxers who are protective, patient, devoted babysitters, and love to play. Bulldogs are gentle, loving, devoted and make great playmates. "A dog is like an eternal Pete Pan, a child who never grows old and who therefore is always available to love and be loved." Aaron Katcher ~There is only one smartest dog in the world, and every boy has it. -Louis Sabin About the author: Sandy has a web site on small dog breeds with information on different breeds including pages on dogs good with children and the elderly, choosing a dog and breeder, vet, dog clothes, dog houses and much more. http://www.small-dogbreeds.com Article Source: http://www.Free-Articles-Zone.com

By Rick Davila When people get dogs they choose a dog breed haphazardly and based off of what they believe are nice looking or sounds fun. It may be ok to do that, depending where the dog will be living. However, some folks live in places where particular dog breeds should not be purchased. Large dogs will require more space in a residence and a bigger backyard than smaller dogs. Some dogs are tremendous watch dogs, but they won't be able to prevent the entry of a burglar or any unwanted guest. Food is something else to consider. Large dog breeds will need substantially more food than smaller dog breeds. Let’s take a look at some popular breeds and what will be required for each. German Shepherds are a common occurrence in today’s suburbs. These are dogs are quite popular and are adorable puppies. They are instinctively adaptable, naturally protective, task-oriented dogs. These dogs are well suited for living with people. The German Shepherd is in the herding group. This means they were bred to be used in herding livestock. The German Shepherd is best at performing this function. This is where they get the name German "Shepherds." Having a well behaved and obedient German Shepherd is a truthfully a pleasing experience. They will quickly adapt to their owners and living conditions. They do need space though. They are a rather large breed. Also, these dogs are naturally protective of their den. They do a great job in repelling unwanted outsiders, so they will guard your house 24/7. If someone dares to enter your home they will be met by a dog that doesn’t play games with intruders. The intruder will never forget the day they broke into your home for sure. If you are out walking your German Shepherd you need not worry of someone attacking or trying to rob you. These dogs will make them wish they lived in another town. German Shepherds are big dogs. Since they are big they will eat a lot of food. Be prepared to spend a good $50.00 a month on good quality dog food. The German Shepherd is a wonderful dog. I highly recommend this type of dog if your are active, have a good sized home, a backyard that’s pretty big, and want the best alarm system money can buy. Beagles are small, fun, active breed of dog. They usually have white fur with black, brown spots, or a combination of both scattered throughout their bodies. Beagles are well known to be especially good spirited. These dogs are normally a friendly dog breed. Beagles love treats and will do just about anything for a snack. These dogs are one of the most loving and fun dog breeds. Before you buy one of these dogs be prepared to give it plenty of attention. They will require lots of time outside running around in order to expel the seemingly endless supply of energy they carry. Beagles are known to be stubborn and hard to train. Their owners need to keep an eye on how much they eat. If not closely monitored these dogs will eat too much and make themselves sick. They also do well with children. They will guard your house closely and make you aware if someone is approaching. However, there is usually no bite to their bark. If you are looking for this dog to defend you and your family you will be disappointed. The type of person that relates well to these type of dogs generally enjoys doing things outside such as running, extensive walking, jogging, playing fetch, and just about any physical activity the dog can join them in. They are usually small to medium size. Nevertheless, they do consume a lot of food because they are so active. Be prepared to spend lots of money on food. The beagle is a fun, active, loving animal. You will take great pride and find years of loving companionship from this type of dog. I have given you two popular breeds that are very common in today’s suburbs. Before selection any dog you must do your homework. Research the type of dog you are interested in. You will be glad you did. Be honest with yourself. Are you active or inactive? How big is your home? Is there enough house and yard space for your new dog to thrive in? How much are you willing to spend on food? These are just a few helpful tips that will help guide you in selecting the right dog. If you are looking for an inactive dog, I suggest English Bulldog Puppies. Visit my blog at www.englishbulldogpuppies.com if you want to learn more. Happy dog shopping. I love to write about dogs. by Kevin Stith Dog collars are the most common treat for dogs. Most dog owners love giving their best friend a beautiful dog collar to delight their furry buddy. Dog collars have to be very comfortable. The dog has to feel at ease with the collar around its neck at all times. Most pet owners do not give too much importance to the kind of collar and go for a common one that is believed to fit all dogs. But in most cases, this is not really true. Different breeds of dogs have different neck sizes. The collar has to fit the neck perfectly, with enough breathing space for the dog. Dog collars are available in different sizes: small (10-14""), small plus (14-16""), medium (16-18""), large (20-22"") and extra large (22-24""). Small collars are for smaller breeds of dogs, including Maltese, pomeranians, miniature pinschers, beagles, Jack Russells, shelties and papillons. While measuring the dog’s neck for the collar, place two fingers between the neck and the tape. Also ensure that the tape is kept loosely around the neck. The collar is likely to rest a few inches below the head, but it is better to add a couple of inches to the measurement. If the length is between two sizes, choose the bigger collar. Select a bigger collar if the dog is still growing. Dog collars are believed to reflect the dog’s personality. They may even show the owner’s personality. Dog collars are now available in unique designs which range from “cute” to “designer”. Some of the different kinds of dog collars are handmade collars, leather collars, washable collars, cotton collars, metallic collars, glitzy collars, spiked collars, colored collars, plush suede collars, and so on. The most common designs are flowers, baseball, rainbow, batik, rhinestone, collars with letters, flamingoes, polka dots, mink, Halloween, Hawaiian, patriotic, and several more. Other special kinds of small dog collars are adjustable collars, washable collars, training collars, no-bark collars, reflective collars, electric collars, waterproof collars, talking collars and others. Prices of these collars start at as low as $5 and can go up to $200 or more, depending on the kind of collar and the material used. There are also many providers of personalized collars for small dogs. Dog Collars provides detailed information on Dog Collars, Personalized Dog Collars, Small Dog Collars, Fancy Dog Collars and more. Dog Collars is affiliated with Designer Dog Clothes.
