Michael Phelps con sus 8 medallas de oro, ya es una celebridad que empieza a levantar vuelo, lo veremos en varios eventos, conciertos, premiaciones, y de seguro hasta series de Tv y películas.

En este comercial vemos como Michael Phelps comparte oficina con los del SportsCenter de ESPN, cuyo compañero de cubículo ha usado una de sus 8 medallas de oro como posa vasos

2 Fanáticas de Michael Phelps pierden covertura telefónica por no usar los servicios de At&T, por lo que una de las chicas graba un Mensaje en la máquina contestadora mostrando su furia de no saber cuando y donde Michael dará autógrafos.

No me gustó para nada el concepto ni el resultado final de esta publicidad.

No estoy seguro si este comercial esta aprobado por Michael Phelps, ya que sólo usaron posters y videos de sus triunfos. Capaz vermos a muchas empresas sacar cosas como esta sin aprobación de Phelps, aprovechándose únicamente de su fama.

Me paso la noche viendo series actuales de tv americanas y cuando llegan los oscar de la tv, osea los emmies, apenas reconozco a alguno de los premiados. Ni The wire, The Shield, Nip Tuck, Héroes, Perdidos, Galáctica, Todo el mundo odia a Chris, The office etc. Que les den por el saco. Aquí está la lista de los premiados:

DOWNBOUND TRAIN - Bruce Springsteen, 1984

Ajeno a los convulsos moviemientos que se iban sucediendo en los diversos subgéneros que marcaban las tendencias en el rock de los 80, Bruce Springsteen editaba en 1984 "Born In The U.S.A.". Era su séptimo álbum de estudio y se convertiría por méritos propios en un auténtico pelotazo de ventas, crítica y público. Realmente es un disco redondo en todos los sentidos. Si en anteriores trabajos Springsteen había mostrado su cara más intimista es en "Born In The U.S.A." donde afloró todo el rock que el de New Jersey llevaba dentro.

Es bastante difícil decidirse por alguno de los cortes de este álbum. "Born In The U.S.A.", "I'm On Fire", "No Surrender", "Dancing In The Dark", son sólo algunas de las 12 piezas que componen este magnífico disco. Todas ellas auténticos éxitos en su momento y aún hoy en día temas que suenan constantemente.

Me he decidido por "Downbound Train" por ser un tema de los calificados como menor en este trabajo de Springsteen. Por supuesto no estoy de acuerdo con esa apreciación, y aún a costa de que alguien me tilde de tarado, diré que en mi humilde opinión es el mejor tema de "Born In The U.S.A:". Puede resultar una locura, lo se, teniendo en cuenta los impresionantes temas que componen este álbum, pero cada vez que la escucho, y lo hago muy a menudo, en este momento por ejemplo, me doy cuenta de que lo que digo es cierto. Algunos temas se han vuelto dulzones con el paso de los años, pero "Downbound Train" conserva todo el esplendor del mejor rock que Springsteen ha hecho.

El comienzo de "Downbound Train", con esa magnífica guitarra tocada por el propio Boss a la que se une el resto de instrumentos para dar paso a la complicada y a veces ininteligible voz de Springsteen, los teclados marcando el ritmo en un escalón inferior a la batería y el bajo, la soledad del Boss junto a ese teclado en un auténtico lamento, de nuevo todos los instrumentos con Springsteen para terminar escuchando los acordes de esa guitarra empapados por las notas del teclado, componen un tema de rock auténtico, único, memorable. Es difícil comentar por escrito a que suena un tema, pero es que "Downbound Train" suena a clásico, a rock puro, a la música de Bruce Sprinsgsteen en su auténtica esencia.

Una vez más encontramos en la discografía de Springsteen una letra dedicada a un perdedor. El ciudadano medio que vió llegar el sueño americano en forma de amor y de trabajo pero que pronto se dió cuenta de que ese sueño se había evaporado. Es un tema crudo "Downbound Train", descorazonador, pero en el que Springsteen capta como nadie la cruda realidad de la clase trabajadora de su país.

La letra de las canciones es una de la cosas que más (ad)miro cuando escucho música. Muchas veces no dice mucho, otras veces se repite demasiado, otras es muy típica... Pero ¿creen que pueden haber canciones con menos de 35 palabras? Pues sí, las hay y algunas son muy conocidas.

U2, The Beatles, Beck... Son algunos de los intérpretes incluidos en esta pequeña lista que muestra canciones con menos de 35 palabras. La clave no está en que las canciones sean cortas sino que repitan las mismas palabras una y otra vez (no sé por qué me he acordado del Sunday Bloody Sunday de Bush). Aquí tienen la lista liderada por la canción: Fly Robin Fly, canción con tan solo 6 palabras... WTF!?

Jackyl es y será una banda sin pelos en la lengua a la que no hay que tomarse muy en serio. Lo que no quiere decir que su música simple y sin mucha pretención sea mala. Nada que ver, ellos son unos machacones rockeros al mas puro estilo sureño bastante buenos para levantar el ánimo a cualquiera.

Y hablando de levantar cosas, ellos tienen una canción bastante singular y divertida llamada She Loves My Cock, que habla acerca de aquel órgano masculino tan importante, si, ese mismo. En este tema el autor se vanagloria de tener a una chica vuelta loca solamente por las características de su inseparable gran amigo. Y recuerdo haber leído en una revista que ellos compusieron las letras de esta canción después de ver una película porno en donde la actriz le decia al sujeto: "Oh, cuanto te amo", y este de forma egocéntrica le respondía: "Tú no me amas, tú amas mi po***".

De todas maneras este será un tema que siempre será analizado y discutido en todas partes. Sin embargo, ¿el tamaño importa? honestamente, creo que sí y es un tema que atormenta a demasiadas personas. Incluso hay tipos tan inseguros que se han ido a vivir y formado un hogar con la primera tipa que no les dijo: Hey, pero que lindo lunarcito tienes ahí!". Según ellos, esa es la mujer de su vida. Personalmente, y metiéndome en el cerebro de estos sujetos, creo que cualquiera que no haya notado aquel pequeño detalle, lo habría sido también. No sé si sentir alegría o pena por ellos.

Ultimamente estoy conociendo algunos grupos nuevos que me están gustando bastante. Uno de ellos es Stereophonics, un grupo de rock galés formado en 1992. Algunas de sus canciones más famosas son “A Thousand Trees”, “Mr. Writer”, “Local Boy in the Photograph”, “Dakota”, “Maybe Tomorrow”, “Traffic” “I wouldn’t believe your radio” y “Just Looking”.

Guanajuato, 24 de julio. “George Bush (el peor presidente en la historia de Estados Unidos), Condolezza Rice, Colin Powell… todos son unos gánsters, culpables de dejarnos en el sitio en que nos encontramos, de asustarnos con eso de las armas de destrucción masiva. A excepción de Inglaterra e Israel, todo el mundo tiene una visión negativa de mi país, pero viviremos una nueva era cuando Barack Obama sea electo presidente; será un momento histórico en el planeta porque habrá un antes y un después. La verdad, mi abuela, quien fue esclava, nunca hubiera imaginado que un negro pudiera ser presidente de Estados Unidos”, aseguró el cineasta Spike Lee en el contexto del Festival Internacional Expresión en Corto, que rindió un homenaje al realizador por ser una figura emblemática de la lucha en defensa de los derechos de los afroestadunidenses, así como “un gran contador de historias”.Se dice que antes de enfocarse en el cine, Shelton Jackson Lee (nacido en Atlanta y avecindado en Nueva York) soñaba con ser beisbolista o jugador de baloncesto, pero el destino lo llevó a la cámara de cine, para convertirse en uno de los realizadores más célebres que han abordado los temas de racismo y derechos civiles de los afroestadunidenses mejor que nadie.

No sólo los temas sociales

Bueno, el relizador insiste en que no sólo los temas sociales han caracterizado su trabajo, pues tiene varias ficciones con “otros temas”, así como documentales sobre sus “héroes preferidos”: los deportistas, “como Jesse Owens, quien en 1936 ganó varias medallas olímpicas, y Jackie Robinson, primer beisbolista afroestadunidense profesional, y músicos como Miles Davis o John Coltrane”. Lee ha hecho documentales sobre esos deportistas y otros actuales, como Michael Jordan y Kobe Bryant, realizaados ex profeso a petición de firmas como Nike, con la cual “ya he hablado sobre la explotación de sus trabajadores”. Pero muchos lo recuerdan por cintas como Malcolm X, She’s Gotta Have It, Get on The Bus, Jungle fever, en las cuales eaborda asuntos sociales que tienen que ver con la comunidad afro de Estados Unidos, “aunque tengo que decir que no soy el vocero de esta comunidad ¿Cómo voy a serlo de más de 45 millones de personas de color que viven en mi país? No estoy interesado en ser político, nunca lo sería. Si Obama me ofreciera trabajo no creo ser un buen secretario de defensa o de salud. Sólo soy un contador de historias, que tiene sus propia visión y hago todo tipo de películas, desde documentales sobre deportistas hasta musicales”.En una conferencia magistral ofrecida en el Auditorio del Estado, el realizador, quien dice que por más cineasta independiente que “seas, tienes que buscar el dinero por cualquier lugar, inclusive en los estudios de Hollywood (ahora son proyectos híbridos y tienes que ceder en cuanto a tu creatividad)”, dijo que todavía los afroestadunidenses “son ciudadanos de segunda categoría, aunque las cosas hayan cambiado, y más todavía con las próximas elecciones. Esto es un asunto de raza, no de clase”. Se le preguntó sobre la deuda que tiene su país con los descendientes de esclavos. “Abraham Lincoln propuso en su tiempo que a cada afroestadunidense liberado se le entregaran un terreno y una mula. No se hizo, pero al menos Estados Unidos no ha ofrecido disculpas por la esclavitud”.

Milagro en Santa Ana

Habló sobre su reciente proyecto Miracle at Saint Anna (Milagro en Santa Ana), que narra a la historia de los soldados afroestadunidenses que combatieron contra el fascismo en Italia, durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial.“Estoy cansado de que las cintas de esa época no hablen de los soldados afroestadunidenses, que en ese tiempo fueron segregados para pelear por su país, pero que ahora, junto con los hispanos, son los que están en el campo de batalla, por ejemplo en esa guerra idiota de Irak”. La cinta, que se estrenará en el festival de Toronto en septiembre próximo, se habla en los idiomas de los personajes, “porque estoy harto de ver películas de nazis que hablan inglés. En la mía los italianos hablan su idioma, así como los estadunidenses el suyo”.Para Spike Lee, quien tiene más de 22 títulos en su trayectoria fílmica, la clave para ser un buen cineasta es tener “talento, perseverancia, ética, suerte y una visión única del mundo. En este cruel negocio del cine si no perteneces al mundo de los grandes estudios es más difícil sobresalir. Sé que muchos países pugnan por luchar contra el dominio de Hollywood”.Se le preguntó si era posible que le comentara a Obama acerca de la falta de una política cultural en Estados Unidos, a lo que respondió que aunque su lista de prioridades es larga, sí se lo diría. “Recuerdo que cuando era estudiante de una escuela pública de Nueva York (donde ahora imparte clases de cine), teníamos la asignatura de arte, que ahora no existe. Tendremos que atender temas abandonados por un sistema roto, entre ellos la cultura”.

En cine todo puede ser arte, porque el mero hecho de entretener a la gente por dos horas -o menos- es absolutamente un arte, tomando en cuenta las definiciones de arte que da la real academia española, sobretodo dos de sus acepciones: 1. amb. Virtud, disposición y habilidad para hacer algo y 4. amb. Maña, astucia.
Esas “mañas” que se dan algunos directores al menos para entretener, son difíciles de lograr y conllevan algún mérito. Ya que, es difícil que el espectador se quede en su asiento, que no se levante, que no piense, que si esta en su casa con el control del dvd en la mano no avance la película para ver que ocurre en la próxima escena, tratando de darle fin a una actividad que ya se le hace desagradable, molesta.
Se tiende a confundir el cine llamado “comercial” con cine “poco trabajado”, “poco artístico o expresivo”, mas dentro de ese cine (y es entonces que uno se da cuenta que no es una clase de cine en general lo que es o no artístico, sino una que otra película en particular) existen pequeñas obras de arte del ingenio y el entretenimiento, películas que mas allá de su calificación –siempre facilista- enganchan al público, lo hacen reír, vivir y hasta soñar, perder el sentido del tiempo mientras dura esa experiencia cinematográfica.
Something's Gotta Give con la bella Diane Keaton y Jack Nicholson no es una muestra de ello, pues aunque es una película que puede entretener en un principio, pronto nos permite recordar que tenemos cerca el control remoto del dvd, lo cual es una señal clara de fastidio.
Este film demuestra que la llamada “comedia romántica” necesita, intuye, se provee de elementos que no están tan al alcance de todo el mundo que se propone hacer una. Pues en la película, aunque ingeniosa por momentos, graciosa en otros, grata en algunas escenas, siempre hay algo que falta (o algo que se excede). Y es una lastima porque Nancy Meyers, la escritora y directora de este film, es la ingeniosa escritora y directora también de la muy grata The Holiday (2006). Una emocionante y convincente comedia romántica con Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Graham Simpskins y Jack Black.
Algo fallo esta vez, algo falto, algo sutil que no se alcanza, algo tan esquivo como el material fundamental de las llamadas comedias románticas: el amor.
La historia del film va mas o menos así: Harry tiene sesenta años y nunca ha visto a una mujer de su edad o contemporánea con el desnuda. Solo se relaciona fugazmente con mujeres que no pasen de los treinta, esto, claro hasta que tropieza con la madre de la ultima de sus conquistas. Jack Nicholson es Harry y al igual que en The Bucket List (2007), otra comedia fallida, no ofrece nada interesante actoralmente. Es excelente en The Departed (2006) más acá no logra el efecto que un Tom Hanks, Jeff Bridges, Hugh Grant u otro logran mostrar tan bien en películas de este estilo.
¿Por qué "Something's Gotta Give" no enamora?, quizás porque le falta sustancia a la historia, porque es previsible, porque las escenas son planas al igual que los personajes. El trabajo de la directora no presenta una mirada muy profunda o ejercitada sobre las relaciones de gente de cierta edad, todo es demasiado "light" para ser creible. Muchas escenas sobran (escenas aburridas, no por la falta de acción, sino por falta de “manipulación” ). Diálogos carentes de sustancia, sin una sola frase que podamos recordar, mas bien frases olvidables, que pretenden lograr un efecto que finalmente no poseen. La bella Diane Keaton se desperdicia. ¿Lo único rescatable de la película?, la bella sonrisa y rostro de Keanu Reeves.

No es muy común la reivindicación de sus orígenes cuando se habla de rock, y más aún cuando la figura a reconocer es una mujer en un entorno machista lleno de gallos de corral. Porque lo cierto es que no ha habido muchas mujeres en el rock'n roll -sí en otros estilos como el jazz vocal, el blues o el country-, y mucho menos tan enormes como Wanda Jackson. Con su voz rasposa y su imponente presencia igual te encandilaba a un redneck de rancho que a un rocker adolescente. Tan grande que obnubiló al mismísimo Elvis Presley, que a la postre fue quien la animó a dar el salto del country standard a un rockabilly calentorro, vital e intransferible. Hoy son pocos los que se acuerdan de esta gata salvaje que intentaron domesticar sin éxito. La primera black mamba del rock. La gran dama del rockabilly capaz de codearse con el mismísimo Jerry Lee Lewis y salir sin un solo arañazo. El eco de los orígenes con la voz del género silenciado. ¿Lo digo ya?.. Mujeres rockeras al poder!!!

El viaje trepidante de Wanda comienza con I Gotta Know en 1956, compendio irresistible de dos de sus pasiones: el country y el rock and roll. Candela eléctrica con brasas atizadas que demostraba que esta mujer de cara angelical podía dar guerra. Este single y un puñado más de temas vibrantes y aguerridos -casi todos grabados previamente a finales de los 50- completan Rockin' With Wanda, segundo disco en la carrera de la Jackson y el primero puramente rock and roll frente a su debut del 58 que, a pesar de tener trallazos eléctricos como Let's Have a Party, estaba orientado hacia la balada country. Aquí la tónica dominante es el rock enérgico y desbocado, carnaza sin desperdicio. Rock Your Baby, Fujiyama Mama, Hot Dog! That Made Him Mad y la electrizante Mean Mean Man entre otras justifican de sobra por qué le sienta mejor que a nadie el título de reina del rockabilly.

Rock Your Baby!

Lejos de amedrentar los efluvios espasmódicos que adornaban su personal rock'n roll, y por mucho que la sentaran en taburetes en apariciones televisivas, Wanda Jackson se volvió con el tiempo más salvaje si cabe como demuestra este There's A Party Goin' On. Relámpagos adrenalínicos con voz arrastrada que a veces incluso recuerdan a los Cramps. Cuando se pone bestia se pone. Aunque también se acerca al pop de Buddy Holy en la cadenciosa Baby, Baby, Bye Bye y no abandona el country que permanece como leit-motiv en el cómputo general del disco. La fórmula se enriquece, además, con la amplitud de miras que trae la nueva década, como demuestra la sugerente Fallin'. Y por supuesto los calambrazos de alto voltaje: There's A Party Goin' On, Hard Headed Woman, Man We Had A Party y Tongue Tied, mi favorita. Ni se te ocurra perdértelo.
