La creciente capacidad de almacenamiento (y computo) de los computadores le ha permitido a todo tipo de entidad (comercial, científica y/o académica), el almacenar grandes volúmenes de información “aparentemente” útil. Sin embargo, no toda esta información resulta realmente útil. En algunos casos, alguna de la información almacenada puede ser errónea, incompleta o conducer a conclusiones equivocadas. En general, la información útil se encuentra inmersa y oculta en esos grandes volúmenes de información.


El encontrar dicha información útil y convertirla en conocimiento no es una tarea fácil. Tradicionalmente, los analistas de datos cumplían esta labor. En la actualidad, el proceso de extracción de información útil requiere la aplicación de técnicas de análisis de datos automáticas que sean capaces de procesar grandes volúmenes de información. La minería de datos es el proceso de aplicar metodologías basadas en computadores, conceptos estadísticos y administración para extraer conocimiento útil de grandes volúmenes de información.

Hoy en día existe mucha información interesante en formato PFD, el problema radica en encontrarlo con facilidad, por eso es que les presentaremos un buscador de archivos PDF online llamado Data-Sheet.

A principios de mes comentábamos otro buscador PDF llamado PDF Search Engine, a mi parecer éste parece ser más eficaz en los resultados que arroja. Por su parte Data-Sheet ordena los resultados al estilo de Google, mostrando miniaturas de acuerdo a lo que el usuario ha buscado. Resumiendo podemos decir que es un sencillo buscador de archivos PDF que cumple perfectamente su función principal.

I-O Data ha presentado un nuevo monitor LCD de 19 pulgadas, los que estén pensando en cambiar de monitor, mejor que estén atentos.

El LCD-AD191XB3, es un monitor LCD de 19 pulgadas, capaz de alcanzar una resolución máxima de 1440×900 píxeles, dónde podremos elegir ver la imagen en 4:3 o 5:4. El ratio de contraste es de 1000:1 y su brillo de 380cd/m, con un tiempo de respuesta de 5ms.

Además cuenta con entrada DVI-D y VGA, auriculares y dos altavoces de 1.5 W cada uno. No es el mejor monitor del mercado, ya que el contraste y el tiempo de respuesta deja mucho que desear, pero seguramente algún comprador le saldrá, y su precio es de 231 €.

La relación calidad-precio, no es de las mejores en este monitor de I-O Data.

One of the previously reported problems with the first iPhone was the inability to fully erase all your personal data from your phone. Imagine your iPhone being stolen with all your private data. I am talking about passwords, online banking accounts, company emails. Same thing if you wanted to sell your first generation iPhone. You’d have to go through a lot of trouble to erase some of that sensitive data.

Para todos los que nos emociona oir noticias de OAuth, hoy nos enteramos que Google ha implementado este estandar en todos sus Data APIs.

Para tener claros cuales son los Dada APIs que pertenecen a este grupo, hablamos de Google Calendar, Blogger, Picasa Web Albums, Google Contacts y YouTube. Revisen la documentación para tener más claro como va la implementación.

Oauth es un protocolo abierto que permite autenticación por medio de un API de forma simple y estandar para el escritorio y aplicaciones web.

Espero a futuro poder compartir algunos experimentos con estas tecnologías.

Evocando el diseño de los teclados Bluetooth de Apple, pero con unas dimensiones dignas de Liliput. Así  se presenta el I-O Data CPKB/BT, un teclado Bluetooth para móviles que, seguramente, no viaje oficialmente más allá de las fronteras japonesas.

El teclado Bluetooth I-O Data CPKB/BT, como no, funciona a pilas. Concretamente con un par de pilas AAA que lo mantendrán vivo durante 11 horas de trabajo ininterrumpido. Además, las teclas tienen distribución y caracteres occidentales, así que mientras sea compatible con tu móvil o sistema operativo, no deberías tener problemas en usarlo si lo configuras correctamente.

También mencionar que el teclado I-O Data CPKB/BT es compatible con la PlayStation 3, aunque para la consola de Sony sería más adecuado el polivalente Logitech DiNovo Mini. Los teclados I-O Data CPKB/BT, con un precio de 15.700 yenes (96 euros al cambio), ya deberían estar a la venta.

Nokia acaba de comprar Plazes, un servicio de redes sociales móviles geolocalizadas y a cuyo CEO escuchamos en el MoMo Barcelona de hace un par de años.

La compra es realmente genial, la empresa había levantado unos €4 millones y ahora estaba siendo conocida por su version para el iPhone 3G; ahora.. imaginen el poder de Plazes sumado a Nokia Maps y toda la data que Nokia adquirió con Navteq, si logran integrarlo van a tener un social network móvil casi perfecta por la cantidad de datos e integración de producto!

Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HPQ) has continued to advance its open-source offerings by making the source code for its Tru64 Unix Advanced File Sharing (AdvFS) System available to open-source developers. The code included on the AdvFS System is designed to help guarantee uptime and data security while enhancing the performance of an enterprise Linux file system.

The code for the AdvFS System is being released to comply with the terms of General Public License Version 2 for Linux compatibility, according to a release from HP.

In addition, HP will release design documentation, test suites and engineering resources for open-source developers. All of the materials will serve as a resource base that Linux developers can use to optimize existing software and create new tools to promote greater functionality and data security.

HP today introduced the industry’s highest-performance, most energy-efficient blade offering for the 1-to-4-terabyte market segment within the Oracle Optimized Warehouse initiative.

The HP BladeSystem for Oracle Optimized Warehouse builds on current reference configuration solutions available from HP and Oracle for data warehousing. Composed of HP BladeSystem and Oracle® Database, this pre-configured, appliance-like offering enables customers to invest more time and money in business innovation, rather than maintenance, by offering faster implementation times and better performance, with better energy efficiencies.

With the new offering, medium- to large-size businesses can be ready to load data into their new data warehouses within hours instead of weeks.

HP worked closely with Oracle to create the joint offering, which provides customers with up to 2.5 times higher performance(1) and up to 65 percent reduced energy costs,(2) compared to other offerings within the Oracle initiative. Savings gained from performance and energy efficiency can offset the rising cost of power and tightening data center budgets.
