Tengo que ser sincera, cuando Ilene Chaiken decidió que mi querida Dana pasara a formar parte de los angelitos del cielo que cuidan a las lesbicanarias llore unos cuantos ríos y estuve cabreadísima con ella por no ocurrirsele mejor forma de tirar con la historia de uno de mis personajes favoritos de l word. Y es que aunque Ilene alego que intentaba representar de manera real el drama que pueden vivir las mujeres que pasan por la terrible enfermedad del cáncer yo no pensé que pudiera salir nada bueno del asunto.

Me equivoque porque la increíble interpretación de Erin Daniels y leisha hailey ha inspirado a alguien a dar 1 millón de dolares a la fundación “Dr. Susan Love” que investiga la enfermedad en nombre de las dos actrices.

El director de la fundación Naz Kykes ha dicho que la donadora (que ha decidido permanecer en el anonimato) quería honrar la profunda interpretación de las actrices de una pareja lidiando con las trágicas consecuencias del cáncer y su manera de conseguirlo fue hacer esa tremenda donación que va a ayudar a avanzar las investigaciones del centro.

Visita a La Granja

Hace un par de domingos atrás mi compañero de trabajo Peter nos invitó a pasar el día con él y su familia en su Granja cerquita de Erin, ON a una hora en auto de Waterloo para el lado de Guelph. Así fue que los tres machitos (Patricia está todavía en Buenos Aires con Martín hasta por lo menos fin de mes) nos preparamos y salimos dispuestos a pasar un día “en contacto con la naturaleza” La pasamos muy bien, los chicos estuvieron súper cómodos con los hijos de Peter y Alex, ellos no hicieron sentir bienvenidos y bueno… siempre es reconfortante que alguien te abra las puertas de su casa, no? La granja es un tema aparte: construída en 1856 toda la estructura original de la vivienda y el granero se encuentran intactos. Como el dueño anterior a Peter era un artesano que trabajaba la madera, la casa está perfecta y con unos muebles fascinantes hechos a manos por esta persona. El granero deja ver el paso del tiempo pero su estructura sigue fuerte como el primer día. La imagen que os adjunto es la de la serie original en la que la BBC va a basar su nuevo piloto. Worst Week proviene de la sitcom inglesa The Worst Week of My Life, emitida hasta el 2006 en la cadena británica. La historia original cuenta las desastrosas circunstancias que rodean la celabración de la boda entre Howard Steel y Mel Cook. Todo va perfecto hasta que, una semana antes, con dos o tres preparativos por completar, deciden visitar a la familia de la novia, lo que significa el principio de un muy divertido y entretenido desastre. Para la versión americana contaremos con grandes nombres. Kyle Bornheimer (Jericho, The Unit) y Erin Hayes serán marido y mujer respectivamente, mientras que Kurtwood Smith (Aquellos maravillosos 70) y Nancy Lenehan (Las Aventuras de Cristhine) interpretarán a los padres de la prometida. A cargo de este proyecto encontramos a Jimmy Mulville, Marc Buckland (My Name is Earl) y Matt Tarses (Scrubs), lo que esperemos sea sinónimo de calidad. “The Tracey fragments” es una minoritaria producción canadiense del año pasado por la que, probablemente, en otras circunstancias nadie se hubiera interesado para distribuir a nivel internacional. Sin embargo, después de que su protagonista, Ellen Page, fuera nominada al Oscar® por “Juno”, en Estados Unidos han decidido estrenarla de forma limitada el próximo 9 de mayo. Mientras tanto, se ha paseado por una porrada y media de festivales, como los de Berlín, Cannes, Toronto, São Paulo, Vancouver o Turín, donde ha recibido algunos reconocimientos. Basada en una novela de Maureen Medved que ella misma ha adaptado al guión y dirigida por el televisivo Bruce McDonald (las series “Queer as folk” y “Degrassi: The next generation”), nos cuenta la historia de una joven de 15 años (Page) que busca a su madre. Aunque esto es lo de menos, porque, por lo visto, la película es de esas “raritas” / “artísticas” / “experimentales” y utiliza recursos como la división de pantalla, algo que podéis comprobar viendo su tráiler (disponible en Flash en la web oficial o en QuickTime en la de Apple). A la protagonista de “Hard candy” la secundan Ari Cohen, Maxwell McCabe-Lokos, Erin McMurtry, Slim Twig y Julian Richings, entre otros. La vida después de Dana

Creo que nadie que haya visto L word podrá olvidarse jamás del personaje de Dana. La muerte de su personaje ha sido uno de los días más tristes de la historia lesbicanaria televisiva. Vamos que a más de una se le salió una lagrima cuando en esta quinta temporada de la serie le hicieron un mini homenaje.

El cariño que le hemos tomado al personaje de Dana tiene mucho que ver con Erin Daniels la actriz que trajo a la vida a esa graciosa tenista que nos saco tantas sonrisas en pantalla y este mes ha ocupado la portada de la revista lesbicanaria Diva que le ha hecho un bonito reportaje en el que han hablado de un montón de temas.

Erin les contó que se sintió muy triste cuando le dijeron que su personaje iba a morir en la serie y que se juró a si misma que nunca más volvería al set. Pero que regresar como fantasmilla en la quinta temporada le dejó un muy buen sabor de boca.

También comentó que esa escena de la tercera temporada en la que Dana acaba de pasar por la mastectomía y todas las chicas están a su alrededor fue muy emocional y que todas esas lagrimas que pudimos ver tanto de ella como de todo el cast eran reales porque sabían que era una de las últimas que filmaban juntas y que después ya nada sería lo mismo.

Pero no todo fue triste en la entrevista, también dedico un momento a comentar lo bien que se lleva con Leisha Hailey y Katherine Moennig y a explicarnos un poco de sus proyectos futuros que incluyen escribir un libro.

Les recomiendo que le den un vistazo a la revista o a la versión en línea que les he dejado en el enlace, porque es muy interesante.
