Charlotte Observer: "No father is listed on the birth certificate of a child who a tabloid newspaper claims is linked to former Sen. John Edwards. The document doesn't help to clear up repeated allegations by the National Enquirer that the N.C. Democrat had a sexual relationship, and later a baby, with Rielle Hunter, who had been hired last year by Edwards' presidential campaign. Moonves is abandoning his attempts to crawl up the tight derrieres of young viewers who don't give a fig about evening network newscasts. The ad also used quotes from various newspaper and online reviews to talk about the "impressive" and "poignant" reporting on the newscast. Fox News John Gibson, looking bloated as if he had too many cocktails last night, served up this lame "apology" at the end of today's show for dancing on the body of Heath Ledger. "I have received comments regarding remarks I made on my radio show the other night after the shocking death of Heath Ledger. I'm sorry that some gay groups and others took my comments as anti-gay and insensitive. I'm aware that Ledger has a family and many fans, who were grief-stricken by his sudden death. As I speak, a crowd is gathering at the funeral home where Ledger's services will be held.Those who knew him say he was a good actor and a loving dad and what happened to him was terrible, but was evidently an accident. Once again, to anyone offended by my comments, I'm sorry. But I'm also sorry that Heath Ledger is no longer alive and with us. And that is My Word." The Word of the Lord. Praise be to God... To "anyone offended" by his "comments?" That would be anyone with a brain and heart. What if he'd uttered this rant about a dead black actor?

Charlie and George were gunnin' for Obama in what "seemed more like a grilling of Obama on a Sunday-morning talk show than a debate between the two candidates.

Tom Shales Wash Post: It was another step downward for network news -- in particular ABC News... whose usually dependable anchors, Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos, turned in shoddy, despicable performances. Gibson and Stephanopoulos dwelled entirely on specious and gossipy trivia that already has been hashed and rehashed, in the hope of getting the candidates to claw at one another over disputes that are no longer news. Some were barely news to begin with.

The boyish Stephanopoulos looked like an overly ambitious intern helping out at a subcommittee hearing, digging through notes for something smart-alecky and slimy. He came up with such tired tripe as a charge that Obama once associated with a nutty bomb-throwing anarchist. That was "40 years ago, when I was 8 years old," Obama said with exasperation.

MSNBC talking head Keith Olbermann isn't just a blowhard, he's a hypocrite. After USA Today columnist Lorrie Lynch criticized CNBC anchor Erin Burnett for refusing to do an interview without her flack present, Olbermann named Lynch the "Worst Person in the World" on his nightly show, stating that all public figures are interviewed with "press handlers." Responding this week on her daily "Who's News" blog, Lynch points out that in 2005, Olbermann himself gave her "a lovely interview that was completely handler-free." Lynch told Page Six, "I sent Keith an e-mail to thank him for the mention; I haven't heard back."

After denying it and enlisting talk radio show listeners to support him, former SF KGO talk radio host and priest Bernie Ward faces five years in the pen for admitting kiddie porn. Ward's lawyer still insists he was merely "play-acting."

SF Gate: Bernie Ward, the most prominent liberal voice on Bay Area talk radio for more than two decades, admitted Thursday to distribution of child pornography by e-mail in a plea deal that will send him to federal prison for at least five years. Ward, 57, a former Roman Catholic priest, was a fixture on KGO-AM 810 for three hours every weeknight, known in recent years for his fervent denunciations of President Bush and the war in Iraq during his news talk show. He also hosted "God Talk," a Sunday morning program on religion, and was a prolific fundraiser for the station's charity drives.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe at one point Ward and/or his surrogates suggested George Bush was behind the porn charges to silence the liberal Ward.
